BAAK – 2011 Bonneville T100

We have something a little different from Rémi Réguin of BAAK Motocyclette. A Triumph Twin customised for long-term friend of the BAAK workshop Sacha, who for some time had been riding a classic Honda CB 400 Four Supersport. But the classic Honda’s days were numbered with Sacha needing something more practical and reliable, though of course the CB 400’s replacement still needed to retain that retro classic vibe,  so of course, there really was only one contender.

Sacha bartered his Honda against a modern 2011 EFI model Triumph Bonneville T100, which Sacha later entrusted into the hands of his friend at BAAK, who went on to create a build which was they described as being ‘authentic (Triumph love the word ‘authentic’), chic and with a strong look’…. and it certainly has that!

The BAAK team continues the build story……“Our project was to build around the gas tank in order to keep a harmony. A bespoke project for which we entrusted to Christelle, a jewellery creator and founder of Nuan-C.  The design was entirely drawn by hand, this floral decoration named ‘Botanica’ is full of details and becomes the masterpiece of this Triumph  motorcycle… details of which tells a personal story about Sacha its owner…”.“Sacha wanted his motorcycle to be close to a Flat Track looking motorcycle in some aspects, with a chic BAAK touch. Simplicity, discretion and adventure were the guidelines of the rest of the project… We wanted it to look timeless so that only the Bonneville enthusiasts could tell whether it’s a 2000’s or a 1960’s motorcycle…”.“We designed and manufactured a bespoke subframe and handcrafted a double-leather seat stitched with thin squares…. This enables the rider to comfortably bring a passenger while keeping a seat that remains discreet when you ride solo”.“Many aluminium and stainless steel parts received a brushed finish (handlebar, engine pans, exhaust system, mudguards…), less flashy than a chromed finish and creating a raw aspect….the cherry on the cake? It will also be far easier to maintain over time. We did our best to visually lighten the build by replacing, removing or relocating many of the original disgraceful parts”.“The original speedometer was replaced by a Motogadget Tiny and placed behind the handlebar and now provides only essential information to the rider. We relocated the ignition switch to under the gas tank and moved the turn signals to under the steering column. We also used our stainless steel and aluminium line that contrasts with the Bonnevilles original exhaust and fitted thinner stainless steel mudguards”.Equipped with a wide Flat track handlebar, short shock absorbers, progressive fork spring and with a reduced weight, the Bonneville is now punchy and easy to handle. Sacha is a real adventurer, he sometimes puts his wheels off road, that’s the reason why we used the Dunlop Trailmax tires on his Bonneville so he can ride safely on dirt tracks”.“Moreover, the engine is protected by an aluminium sump guard to prevent from damaging it on the rocks. The deep and rough sound provided by the stainless steel and aluminium exhaust system which we manufactured creating a unique riding experience”.“Sacha had been riding this motorcycle in stock configuration for a few months before we started the project, and he really didn’t like the bike handling, the look and riding feelings. Once the project was completed, he couldn’t realise it was the same motorcycle he gave us two months later. It has a great balance in many aspects: regarding the behaviour of the bike while riding, and regarding the final design which is not extravagant but really makes the bike stand out from the mass”.“All the parts used for this project were designed and manufactured at our workshop in Lyon and can be purchased on our online shop so anyone can build his own project at home.
